Olive Young stopped shipping to the US. Here is where to buy Korean skincare now (2026)
On May 29, 2026, Olive Young Global quietly removed every US state from its shipping list. If you had a cart full of Korean sunscreen that day, you found out the hard way. Here is what actually happened, and the honest ranking of what to do instead — written from Busan, where we can walk into an Olive Young and check the shelf.
Why it happened
Two things collided. First, the US ended the de minimis exemption in August 2025 — the rule that let packages under $800 enter duty-free. That rule was the entire economic basis of the direct-from-Korea haul. Second, Olive Young was already building a US operation: a Los Angeles headquarters, a first physical store in Pasadena, and a dedicated site at us.oliveyoung.com. Once duty-free shipping died, running two US channels made no sense, so the Korean site closed the door and the US site took over.
The four routes, ranked
| Route | Speed | Price | Korean formula? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon US (official brand stores) | 1–2 days Prime | Mid | Mostly yes for serums, toners, masks. Sunscreens are often US-reformulated. | Staples: COSRX, Anua, Beauty of Joseon, Torriden, medicube, TIRTIR |
| Olive Young US | 2–5 days domestic | Mid–high | ~5,000 curated items; sunscreens are FDA-reformulated versions | Olive Young exclusives and bundles that Amazon does not carry |
| YesStyle | 1–3 weeks | Lowest | Yes — ships original Korean stock from Asia, duties handled at checkout | Original Korean sunscreens, Korea-only brands, big hauls |
| Korean proxy / forwarding | 2–4 weeks | Highest per item | Yes, including Korea-only limited editions | Only for things you cannot get any other way |
What 'Korean formula' actually means
This matters for exactly one category: sunscreen. Korea approves modern UV filters (Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S, Mexoryl) that the FDA has not, so a Korean SPF50+ sold in the US has to be rebuilt on older filters. It will still protect you; it may feel heavier, cast whiter, and pill more. If the reason you wanted Korean sunscreen was the texture, buy the Korean version from a retailer that ships from Asia. For serums, toners, creams, and masks, the Amazon and Olive Young US versions are the same product.
What we would do, by situation
- You want one sunscreen. Order Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ PA++++ or Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ from a Korea-shipping retailer and accept the two-week wait. It is the one item where the version matters. Links: Check price for your country →.
- You are rebuilding a routine. Buy the cleanser, toner, serum, and cream from Amazon this week — Anua Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner, Torriden DIVE-IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum, COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence are all official-store listings — and put only the sunscreen on the slow boat.
- You are in the UK, Canada, Australia, or the EU. None of this applies to you. Olive Young Global still ships the Korean bundles (the 1+1 sunscreens, the 11-mask boxes) to you at Korean promo prices. Our weekly Korea Top 30 is written for exactly this — the promo bundles change every week.
How to spot a fake on Amazon
Buy from the listing marked 'Visit the [Brand] Store' or sold by the brand's official US distributor. Third-party sellers with 'ships from Korea' and prices well below Korean shelf price are the ones to avoid: the Korean shelf price is public (we publish it), and nobody sells below it and stays in business.
